I would wait a reasonable amount of time before formatting the card, and in case of eBay seller have left feedback.

LOL

As it happens, I received a very nice response from him earlier today, confirming there was nothing of importance to him on the card, so I could just format and use it

In the mean-time, the camera, lenses and accessories have all been thoroughly cleaned and everything looks as good as new

I wonder if the camera will miss the excitement of its former life... My photography will seem terribly pedestrian by comparison

I'm not really equipped for it... no PVC gimp suit, no gas mask, no ropes, handcuffs or whips. I might still have my old wet-suit and a snorkel mask somewhere, a roll of 50 ohm coax and a wooden spoon or two... and I have some Kleenex wet wipes in the main bathroom. You reckon that would get me started??

I bought a camera online which still had film in it (colour print). I emailed the seller asking if they'd like it back but they declined. Had it been mono I'd have developed it myself, but I can't do C41 so I exposed it to light and binned it.

I bought a Bronica S2A which has a name engraved on it. I know their name, wonder why it wad engraved, and wonder what they shot with it. Google turns up a blank so I guess I'll never know.

My Leica M4 is quite beaten up, I often wonder how it received it's battle damage, was it simply bashed against something 'gently' or did it suffer a bigger fall or accident?

No... but I'm good at improvising

In any event, I'm not tempted by the prospect. If the photos had been of a wine-tasting event, I'd be interested... (and now I'm thinking how difficult it would be to enjoy fine Châteauneuf-du-Pape through a gas mask...)

I shouldn't wonder if it's not ready to settle down some. You can only party for so long before you start wanting the calm and peaceful.

Reminds me of a comedy skit.

One actor has died and gone to heaven, where he meets St. Peter at the gate. he says, "please St. Peter, can Just have 15 more minutes?"
St. Peter "Why"
dead guy " I need to reformat my hard drive"
St. Peter, "You've got it dude."
