Nah! This list is biased. I would show the Classic Pentax K-1000 SE Made in Japan version.

The American Civil War
World War I
World War II
Vietnam War

Each conflict was a watershed of sorts in the visual capture of warfare and resulted in quantum jumps in the evolution of the tools of the trade.

How about Eadwaerd Muybridge and Harold Edgerton's photos and experiments?

Nothing stops us from coming up with our own lists.
Maybe a Top Ten Pentax events would make an interesting list?

They are the Sony/Canon/Nikon loving couple that Pentaxians love to hate.
They published a lot of erroneous misleading information, and were among the leaders in promoting un-informative concepts such as aperture as a function of depth of field, not light transmission, and total light. I hate them because of the hours spent correcting their uneducated nonsense. No other reason.

But Topcon beat them to market. The Topcon RE Super was a Nikon F competitor and was released in 1963 with open aperture TTL metering built into the body. The Spotmatic didn't make it to market until 1965.
As Photography student in 1967, I never heard of a Topcon although I did hear about almost every brand selling cameras. Nothing had an impact like the Spotmatic.

The North American distributor was Beseler...and the Super was never intended for a mass consumer market.

Beseler did manage to get the US Navy to buy it over Nikon...

But when I think of Beseler I usually think of

Good point. Perhaps I should change my top ten to a top eleven. Keep in mind that the list is based on my biased opinions. I was surprised by how many times I saw the name Kodak when I compiled the list.
I was surprised by how seldom the name Kodak appeared. They basically invented the consumer market by their cameras that Kodak reloaded so the consumer never had to touch film, and dominated the consumer market {at least in the US} as long as film existed.

It was mentioned here that Pentax made the first SLR using the Pentaprism technology. I don't know how true that is. But if it is, it should be listed.

This is acknowledged as the first SLR with a pentaprism. It came out in 1947, ten years before the first Pentax.

I'd add the first sub 1000$ DSLR, it's what really made the camera market explode.

Maybe the introduction of SMC (whoever did it first, whatever the branding)?

First computer-assisted lens design? (Vivitar series 1 70-210mm F3.5 macro).

It seems the K1000 should be on the list somewhere (maybe comparable to my first point, since it was probably the most popular SLR for a long time?)
