I thought it was a nice, friendly, peri-Christmas puff piece. There seems to be a gradually increasing buzz about digital medium format, so I would guess we’ll see a 645zii at some stage.

That can be discussed in a different thread. This one's about Pentax history

Fun to read a MF focused article.

Is it really true that Pentax was reportedly still making 67's as late as 2012? It's mentioned at the end of the article. Does anyone have more info about that they could point me in the right direction to? I'm just curious.

They discontinued production in September 2009. But both 67II and 645NII was discontinued in Europe in 2006 because of enviromental rules (RoHS).
A few month ago the 10 years holding of spare parts passed, so now they can no longer ensure repairs on these cameras.

"We also announced on Square Communication in October 2017, but the parts holding period of the PENTAX 67II / 645NII, which was discontinued in September 2009, is approaching the end of September 2019, so once again I will guide you.

At the Repair Service Center, Ricoh Imaging Square Shinjuku, and Ricoh Imaging Square Osaka, we always accept inspections of current products as well as products whose parts have expired (please pay for free inspection and shipping).
However, if any problems are found during the inspection and repair is required, it will become difficult to repair the camera by disassembling the camera after the parts retention period. Request for inspection and repair of 67II and 645NII within August of this year.

In addition, repairs are possible products with the parts replacement, here we guide you in. Please check before requesting repair."

It would take some sleuthing with the wayback machine Web site, but I seem to remember medium format film cameras being listed as active product on the Pentax Japan site as late as 2012.
