Clamp on Lens Hood for 35-105 A

I found a quick mounting solution to the no lens hood availability for the SMC Pentax A 35-105/f3.5 zoom. The metal clamp-on style hood for the Tokina AT-X 28-135mm is a perfect direct fit for thePentax lens. I found mine at KEH for $4.80. eBay has a couple every now and then.

I super glued a 12mm extension to my hood, used the outer ring of a 62mm thread collapsible rubber hood fit inside the very end of the Tokina metal hood. Still no vignetting.

I've used a screw-in metal hood on mine, but looks like a nice solution...

I am using the Hood for the vivitar Series 1 70-210mm 1:3.5 on it (Kiron version). It's also a clamp on hood.

I have a Tokina ATX hood that fits directly without mods (as well as the correct OEM rubber hood found on eBay).

My main reason for wanting a clamp-on style hood for the 35-105A? Mine came with a very deep dent in the filter ring. I was able to restore use of the threads by carefully removing the dent with a lens ring vise. The first thread is very hard to catch quickly, so the clamp style hood eliminated the fiddling around.

I added a 67-72mm step-up ring to mine so I could carry less polarizing filters, added a 72mm cap for the lens and just use a collapsible hood that I can use for a number of lenses. This is a nice option though and seems well thought out.

Bill: Makes sense. IIRC my Tokina hood is a clamp on. I’ll dig it out. If it is and you want it = yours.

I've got a pretty deep screw-on metal hood on my 35-105mm. Works great on APS-C...not so much on FF, I found out. Now that I've got a K1, I may have to go back to the rubber hood I was using in the film days.

Can i ask what hood this is? I don't want to pay the $40 or so for the OEM hood... trying to find something a touch nicer than the $6 generic hoods...

Did you find that it didn't provide enough shielding without the 12mm extension?

The hood I used is for the film era Tokina-AT-X 28-135mm lens. I found it at HEH for $11.

I added the 12mm extension because I use the lens on APSC digital bodies and wanted a bit more depth. I have a screw-in metal hood for the 35-105 which is another 12mm deeper still. so if your leans have perfect threads (I had to repair mine-deep dent) and you shoot on an APSC body, a normal focal length lens hood will do nicely.
