if you need some inspiration for the next phototrip - Morten Hilmer, Ellesmere Island

If you need some inspiration for your next phototrip, then watch Morten Hilmers 4 episodes from his trip to Ellesmere Island, Canada - absolutely amazing.
Itís not Pentax related (it could have been), but who cares? Itís all about taking pictures and inspire other people.
Pour up a cup of coffee and enjoy

That certainly is dedication to make a dream become reality. Amazing how he managed to have the amount of time available, and acquire the financing and support staff needed to pull this off.

I can only guess at the tens of thousands of dollars that the transportation must have cost to get there and back.

A friend of mine was the pilot for a charter to Alert from Ottawa 20 years ago and if I remember correctly, the cost was $30,000. I might be imagining things, but I remember a comment that it cost $5000 to open the heated hanger and park the plane for a few hours. Probably peanuts compared to the cost of three support staff, fuel, food and equipment. Again, I'm relying on my flaky memory, but I thought I read about a different Arctic expedition involving fewer people that needed to raise $200,000. Expensive bucket list item!

Morten is a full time photographer, he does have some sponsors, but they are not all over the place in his videos or on his website: https://mortenhilmer.com/en/

Fantastic videos and photography! A real testament to the motivation, skill, and endurance of the photographer, and to the quality of the camera gear.

An expedition to Ellesmere is not one for the 'faint of heart' or 'light of wallet'. As Canada's most northerly land, it's a harsh place for most of the year -- costly to get to, sparsely populated (150 souls), cold, and rugged. The largest settlement is Grise Fiord on the southern tip, population 129.

Did I mention the cold? The average annual temperature in Grise Fiord is minus 12 degrees C, and it barely reaches above freezing during the summer months. Today, mid-day on 03 February, the temperature is minus 35 C, and it's dark. The sun hasn't risen since late December, and will not be seen again until mid-February.

Anyone noticed the PENTAX logo in the first video? It's on the side of the boat at 3:05 mark. According to the narrator, the image should be from some years ago. Times when PENTAX sponsored arctic expeditions?

Go figure!
Anyway, the logo on the video is almost identical to the Pentax camera brand logo, same color and same letters.
