when did Pentax stop putting a " passed " sticker on lens and camera bodies

just curious

I found out that with the issuance of the Pentax M E Super SLR, there was a change from " Asahi Pentax " to " Pentax " on the camera bodies

and I know that some old equipment has a gold " PASSED " sticker on them I seem to remember those on both lenses and camera bodies

does anyone know when that started and ended ?

JCII (Japan Camera & Optical Instruments Inspection & Testing Institute)

It is based in Tokyo. Its task is to establish and to control quality standards of Japanese cameras and other optical goods that are made for export. Cameras were exempted from inspection in 1989 so the gold sticker was phased out. It started in 1954.

Today JCII is the Japan Camera Industry Institute and focuses on preservation of historical cameras. They have a museum and a library...

Haha, don't buy anything from me then!

I tend to peel extraneous stickers off all my possessions.

Intel inside? Gone.
Designed for Windows? Bye bye.
Car dealer stickers. Dealer stickers! Get lost. No free advertising.
Feature stickers. "PZEV" "Improved!" "300W" "Hyper-symmetrical-high-velocity-nitro-cooled-blah-blah-blah" I don't need to advertise how cool I am (or...not). Adios.
You put your logo on clothes? Not buying.

I hate being a billboard.

good points all

when manufacturers began to prominently display their names on the products

I asked folks " are you getting paid for advertising that "

however on certain things I do look for indications of authenticity

many vintage car buyers love to bargain over the price based on what authentic little indications of such

Sir Nameless huh... username checks out!
I am more or less the same, I really dislike "showing off" the brand of anything. Clothes with gigantic logos are a gigantic nope, certainly. I don't even use my Pentax neck strap! (Okay that one is because I use a belt holder plus a small wrist strap, but you get the point )

And your screen name is Sir nameless! I love it. Society in general is walking billboards.

I am thinking the JCII stickers disappeared from most brands in the early 1980s.

I can recall having owned only three cameras where the JCII sticker was in place: an Olympus OM4 (black) in 1984 and a Canon T90 in 1988. The earliest would be my Olympus XA, bought in 1979 (accompanying a Kodak Instamatic 127), and still bearing the original "gold label" to this day!

I bought mine new around '80. I think you'll find it a great little camera. The only reason I'm not shooting it now when I feel like film, is I can't put down the LX.

I wonder how it actually worked?
Did each body and lens get inspected by an independent inspector, and the sticker applied as it went out the door?
Or was it more like Boeing and the FAA, where the process was approved, and everyone assumed it was OK? Pentax put the stickers on themselves.

A guy I worked for in the '80s explained to me these stickers were the equivalent of the "Inspected by #52" slip you find in your pants pockets when you buy a new pair. I peeled them all off my cameras and gave them to him. He had quite a collection of them from all the other folks in the shop.
In the desert that glue got gummy and the stickers tended to curl and come off, leaving a mess behind.
Takes one back though

I used to know, but do remember that the JCII has an information page tells all.
