Note also that ANY product that crosses an international border outside of the manufacturer's authorized supply chain automatically becomes grey market in the country it is sent to. This may or may not affect warranty, some warranties are international, some are semi international, some are voided in the event of a grey market sale. It is definitely something to be aware of.

International boundaries may be less important to consumers, but they are very important to the nations they live in. Depending on the nationalistic feelings of a particular population, boundaries are very particular to consumers.
You might have less problems buying from Canada than from Iran, for example, and for sure your government will have far less problems with you importing from Canada than Iran.
Granted this is an extreme example.
