Nice one. The capacitor in old flashes have a way of going bad. This can usually be rectified/reconditioned by putting in a fresh set of batteries and waiting for it to charge up. I wonder if a never used flash will have this issue after sitting in the box for a decade or two.

It depends on the capacitors used. Depending on the materials the capacitor can dry out or leak regardless of being used or not. Finding a replacement capacitor of the same values or at least within 10% is not difficult. The hard part is finding one with physical dimensions close enough to fit.in the case or on the circuit board.

This is a Linhof Technika Press 6x9. It is very rare and therefore very expensive. It is also mint but with signs of normal use. That's a little confusing but what do I know?

It seems to use film sheets, i.e. take a shot and change film. No roll film here. No light meter either. Manual focus as well. Obviously intended for real photographers. Wimps can stick to their Nikon F toys.

Makes you wonder about modern reviews that criticize the lack of automatic eye focus...

The target market was sports photography. Yes, really!

Doryu Camera Pistol

This should create a stir at a public event. The ad says the flash cartridges even look like bullets. Yours for £12,830

They literally took a firearm and mounted a spy camera on the muzzle! Sounds crazy at first blush.

Interesting, perhaps it was intended for use in firearm or law enforcement training. I think the Japanese air force had something similar in the WWII era - a movie camera with the form factor of a machine gun that was intended to be used for training aerial gunners.

Edit: indeed they did. There was one on ebay for USD5000 some time ago.

I am sure that there is a good reason for this, but I will never know.

An ME Super with 50mm f/1.7 is not very interesting, I know. However, one that is realistically priced at about USD35 is worth a post.

From the days when super telephotos were big and heavy. They also had rack and pinion focusing. This is the Takumar 500mm f/5.

Optically, it is not the most sophisticated - two elements in one group - but it did the job.

I suppose this is what a well-off communist spent his money on in the cold war days.

That's a camera in the middle and a cable release at the bottom. At top right there is something that looks like a film canister, but what are the other items? Lenses?
