If the launch goes pear shaped, a pair of hearing plugs might come in handy. Failed rocket launches are the biggest non-nuclear detonations observable by the public.

Bumping this one up to the top. Rocket Launch tonight.

We are 50 miles away - due west from the pad.

I have yet to "nail" a good photo from the back yard, but any hints from the brain-trust?

Lens could either an 200 mm f4 SMC or a 300 mm f 6.3 Tak. It'll be on a K-50 (cause that's what I have)!

I've done bulb exposures with shorter length lenses but they've been pretty uninspiring.

The best shots have been the boosters coming down. (All this depends on the flight path of course...)
