There have been some excellent books written on Pentax SLRs and lenses, including "Pentax SLR 35mm Cameras 1952-1989" by Danilo Cecchi (1990) and "The Asahi Pentax Way" by Herbert Keppler in 1979.

However, these earlier books only covered the film era. Are there any book you would recommend that cover the DSLR era? Yes, I know all the info is online, but sometimes it's nice to read a book for a change!

Probably not what you are looking for, but are you aware of the various e-books for specific cameras available here on the forum? They were written by former member (now passed away) Yvon Bourque, and expand on the info in the owner's manuals. You can't hold a PDF document in your hand (unless you print it), but they do have useful tips. I bought one for my K-5IIs and KP. If you are interested, go to the donations page and scroll down. I also have a printed K10D book published by Magic Lantern. It seems like you are looking for a comprehensive book covering several models though. Maybe others have suggestions.

Yes, I am familiar with those books and even bought the book on the K-3, but good as they are as instructional books I was thinking more over an overview of the period. I'm very sorry to hear that by Yvon Bourque has passed away. I always respected his judgement and knowledge.
