I use several transparent airtight plastic boxes. Each one contains an hygrometer and some silica gel in a small drilled box :

Of course, I do not travel with these boxes as the lenses are not individually protected agains scratches.

I've used similar lens pouches for the last 40 years with no problems, here in New England where we have cold winters and warm humid summers. I label the pouches for easy ID.

You can use 3D fabric paint for a permanent label, or painter's tape for hard to stick surfaces (my method)
I'll try the painters tape, thanks. tried using masking tape but it comes off after a while.

I keep them in a dresser drawer. The drawer on top of the one that contains my underwear.

How do you store your lenses when not in use? I have neoprene pouches which I use and put them lenses in camera bag which bag does not have pouches.

The problem with the pouches is that when I am in a rush to go I can't find the lens I want to use as I have to open so many pouches. Is it okay to store the lenses on a shelf, or will they become more dusty inside?

Back in my Pentax ME Super lifetime I had only two lenses, one attached to the camera and one in a case. So I always kept the camera and lenses in the bag. Now that I have 8-9 lenses I'd like to learn a best storage method.
I store all my lenses, around 125 count, in a lens cabinet--actually a repurposed dining room hutch. I store them by type--K-mount, P645, M645 (Mamiya), P67, and Zeiss. I store them hood down with both caps in place. On the back cap, which appears on top of each stored lens, is a short description--focal length, MFD, FOV, and maximum aperture. This makes it easier to pick out the lens I want at any given time. Cameras are likewise stored in this cabinet. I keep the glass cabinet doors closed, and two large desiccant containers in an effort to keep everything dried out. Dust has not been a problem because the lens cabinet is, though certainly not air tight, at lease somewhat isolated from air movement from outside the cabinet.

I store mine in two electronic lens cabinets. In southeast Tennessee we have a lot of rain and humidity so it's nice to keep them in a 35-40% humidity environment.

My gosh, that's a lot of lenses! Now I know who to message if I'm looking for something hard to find.

Just for giggles you should list them for us someday if you have an extra couple of hours. What a collection. The only place I've seen more is at my somewhat local camera dealer who started out selling Pentax almost 50 years ago. They're no longer a dealer and haven't been for years (in fact he's passed away and his kids run it now) but they sell a whole lotta these old Pentax lenses to the movie and video companies in Orlando and Tampa. I haven't been there in maybe a year or two but AFAIK nothing has changed.

Marshall's Camera in Auburndale Florida in case anyone is ever in the area.

On trips, pelican cases.

You can see most of my lenses bottom left in this image.

And the whole case in this one.

One of my camera bags sits on top of the case in the bottom image. Most camera bags are stored in closet elsewhere, only the one I want on the day or might want tomorrow sits on top of the case.

Please accept my apology. I stated around 125 lenses, but the exact total is only 109. I still acquire an occasional lens, however, so it is at least possible that I will one day reach the 125 total. There are a few miscellaneous pieces of glass lying about here and there which are not suitable for my Pentax cameras, and which are not included in this list, some old Canon-FD and Minolta lenses, for example, but probably would still not quite reach the 125 mark.

Almost no one would recognize it but you have a little jewel hiding away in there amongst the other premium stuff. Revuenon 50 1.4.

A very impressive collection of glass sir!

Thank you. This is my major retirement hobby--collecting and using Pentax and Pentax-mount lens.

The Auto Revuenon 50mm f 1.4 is definitely a great lens, and well recognized for its quality. I walked outside and took a few photos with the lens on the K-1 camera, and am sharing a few with you.

First, thank you all for your posts. You have given me some ideas for my limited collection which I thought was getting out of control.

Since I am an attorney, I am thinking beyond this life, and beyond storage, for you, ivanvernon. If your next generation have no camera/lens buffs, or are in a different brand, you need to (a) downsize, or (b) leave detailed instructions about the Pentax forums Buy/Sell thread.

Lens storage and hereafter

I am glad to be helpful. Yes, I probably will begin listing some of the lenses that I either do not regard highly or do not use often. The freed-up storage space would be welcome. Also it might be a good idea to offer some advice on selling, although my son is a clever sort of a fellow and can easily figure out these sorts of things for himself. I really do not worry about such things very much: Morte magis metuenda senectus!

Back in my Pentax ME Super lifetime I had only two lenses, one attached to the camera and one in a case. So I always kept the camera and lenses in the bag. Now that I have 8-9 lenses I'd like to learn a best storage method.
I put the ones I really like side by side in my camera bag in the hopes they will like each other and make little baby lenses.
It works.
A few months ago I put my D FA* 50/1.4 beside my D FA20-210, and a couple of weeks ago, a D FA* 85/1.4 appeared in there with them.

Seriously, I just leave bunches of lenses in camera bags. I think at the moment, my goto bag has an A15/3.5, A20/2.8, FA*24/2, FA31/1.8, D FA* 50/1.4, D FA* 85/1.4 (mounted on the K1), D FA100/2.8 Macro, and D FA70-210/4.
I have a second bag that carries the FA*200/4 Macro, F*300/4.5, A400/5.6 and A*600/5.6.
A third bag has a bunch of lenses that don't get out much anymore, a 16mm Takumar fisheye, A24/2.8, a couple of 28/2.8s, I think an M and an A, A couple of 35mm lenses, an A35/2 and an FA35/2, the 43/1.9, 77/1.8, M85/2, A*85/1.4 (actually they are on my dining room table because I am doing some comparisons between them and the new 85/1.4, a K105/2.5, M150/3.5 and M200/4.
Another bag is chock full of camera bodies, I still have one LX, and sundry other film bodies, I think about 8 of the things, as well as an LX winder and a Winder A and Motor Drive A. Not lenses I realize, though there are lenses in there with them. I have a K30/2.8 and a bunch of 50mm lenses in there, I suspect my A50/1.2 is in that bag also.
Another bag has my Fuji stuff, an X-T1, and the 14/2.8, 23/1.4, 35/1.4, 56/1.2 and 60/2.4 Macro.
Yet another bag has my Tachihara 4x5 along with a Schneider Super Angulon 65mm, and 90mm, a Nikkor 150mm and 210mm, as well as a couple of dozen film holders and some other geegaws that are useful for large format shooting.
In my office area is a display case with random gear in it that is sort of abandoned.
Anyway, most of my gear resides in various camera bags. They do seem to multiply when stored that way.

Rightly or wrongly, I have mine with both end caps fitted standing on the table I use for macro work. They are sitting with the mount uppermost, and as they are open to the air in the room there should be no issues with condensation or things being exposed to extreme temperature changes.
