Pet names

Has any of your photography equipment ever earned a name? And if so how did it earn the title?

Some of mine has earned titles, a few are unprintable. But the one that stands out, and some older members have probably seen this: "Pentax the Red" is a take on a podcast that uses wizard types in a very tolkenesque ...Gandalf the grey sort of way. The name just stuck, especially since the bright red frame never fails to get attention in a crowd, with surprisingly positive results in the right conditions...but not always welcome, much like an egotistical old wizard. :P

I still think it looks like a Ferrari...but a bit less expensive...or mullet.

When they fail they can get all sorts of creative names. Other than that I do not name my equipment.

My wife used to call my K-5II my mistress as I kept sneaking off with her every chance I got. I often refer to the K-5II with DBG-4 grip and DA* 60-250 as "Beastie" but have yet to create a nickname for the KP with a HD DA Limited attached.

When I was a kid one of my cats was named Catou (a mix of 'cat' and 'minou' - french for 'kitty). Oh, wait a minute...

I have enough trouble remembering the wife’s name let alone inanimate objects!

Oh yeah! I remember those. Those great names!

I've got this ancient 400/5.6 vivitar I call "the big kahuna" that works great for wildlife, esp. paired with my m43 camera..which is small enough to cause balance issues on a tripod.

I call my FA* 85/1.4 "Saturn", because in my eyes, with the hood mounted on, it looks like the F-1 engine of the Apollo rocket. Every time I take it on my hands I admit I make the rocket jet whistle and mimic it taking off( OK, perhaps this is too much information!)

I refer to my D FA 150-450mm zoom as " the big guy " but it didn't catch on

unlike the " big mama " Sigma 50-500mm
