I'm afraid of heights so I don't think something like that would ever happen to me ? This happens more often than you think. When I was living in the Washington DC area, there was a park called Great Falls. Why was it called that ? because there was a huge water falls there right in the middle of the park. I decided to visit that park one day and the Guide told us that on average, 10 people die there every year despite all the signs that say "Stay at least 15-20 feet from the water !".

They fudged the numbers I think. This article from 2013 says 27 died since 2001 so roughly 2 per year (3 in the latest year back then per the article). However it’s clear warning people sometimes doesn’t work.
