K-70 dynamic range question.

Can anyone give me data as to what the dynamic range is? Is this model good enough to suit my needs? Any data to build up my confidence apreciated.

A DSLR compared to a mirrorless camera isn't a fair comparison. The cameras aren't even in the same class.

Besides, the Sony doesn't have the ability to use such a broad range of lenses like the K-70, which can accommodate M42 (with a simple and cheap adapter) and K mount lenses produced over the past 60 years or so.

There is no data for the K-70 which is why the scores are zero. What are your needs?

Photographic Dynamic Range versus ISO Setting

Many graphs and many cameras to compare.

Welcome to the Pentax Forums!

DxO has not tested the K-70, therefore no scores.

The A6000 is a nice camera and if you favor mirrorless, is a good option, but I don't know that is particularly comparable to the K-70. Other Sony models are a closer match. Of course, much depends on your aim in purchase.

If one defines dynamic range in terms of range of light reproduced, the K-70 does 14-bit capture. If one defines in terms of signal-to-noise ratio, it is one of the better choices on the market with quite impressive high ISO performance. May I ask what your intended use is?

Well that is clearly wrong. The camera is not going to have a zero score !

Click on the lenses tested and you have your answer ..... "Currently no lens has been tested mounted on this camera "

What you should find disturbing is that they don’t immediately caution you that they Have no data on the k-70 and the comparison isn’t valid.

It would disturb me as well, but given all the zero's you might ask yourself the question if the camera/sensor has really been tested. They did not. And if you open up the measurements tab you will see no data concerning the K-70. Looks like a bit of brand bashing.

In terms of figuring out the right camera for your needs, dynamic range should be well down the list for consideration.

All modern cameras have good dynamic range and it is really a non-issue unless you have very specialized needs.

I think the K70 has something like a 9-10 stop DR as lab measured. But with my K70 I tend to bracket any scene that has more than a 4 or 5 stop range from the darkest to lightest area.
