Originally posted by Kevin B123 I don't think that is the case, the internal volume is not changing. The elements moving internally displace air on one side and that air is moved to the other side, the construction must allow this or else it would be pulling a vacuum on one side.
When I have the 150-450 on my camera , in a quiet place , you can clearly hear air sucking or escaping from the body of the camera, same with my 16-50, with a zooms like my 50-135 or 70-200 I hear nothing, seems the air does just move internally when zooming of focusing. Others may have different experiences, but that is mine, also the fact that the barrels are not going in and out keep balance better, you can use the 150-450 on a gimbal, but it's balance point changes quite dramatically when zooming in or out, the beauty is, the 150-450 is very much a handheld lens for me, so not a huge downside, but, has been a weak point for those whose lenses have separated at that point, as well, due to the fact that the barrel is going from outside to inside the lens it is a point where it can draw in contaminants. If Pentax did make my dream lens, the DFA*200-400/f4 internal zoom would be most desirable , but they won't be making it, so it's just a dream.
