What is your dream Pentax lens? and why?
Right now the DFA* 85/1.4.
It ticks every box I want ticked in a lens.

Before that, the Nikkor-W 210/5.6 for the same reason.

My dream come true lenses are the FA77 and DA300.

I would love to have a DFA500mm F4 or F5.6. A Sigma 500mm F4 in K mount would also be a dream lens. Pity I didn't get one while they still existed.

Two systems, two lenses. The #09 macro lens for the Q. There is a prototype, but Pentax never sold it to consumers.

An ultra wide tilt shift lens for the Pentax 645Z.

Thanks,
barondla

Can't decide. Either a new modern D FA* 600mm, or a D FA* 800mm, or both. Doubt they will ever be made, nor could I afford them if they are. But, this is about dreaming.

For wildlife my dream lens doesn't exist in K-mount: a lens with more reach and better AF than the DA*300, and less weight and cost than the DFA 150-450, but with comparable IQ.
That is my dream lens as well. I have DA* 300 plus the TC but the autofocus is slow for photographing birds. Also, as for what we will hopefully see soon is the DFA 21 Limited. I hope it will be reasonably compact and have quiet autofocus.

Of the lenses in existence, (HD) DA70 and DFA100 Macro WR - a pancake portrait Limited and a weather-sealed telephoto macro.

Of the lenses I'd like to see in the K Mount line-up, reissues or new designs of the DA*55 and DA*300 lenses with AF motors I could trust - absolute system essentials in the telephoto prime lens department. And while Ricoh is at it, an HD reissue or new design of the DA14? Or a newly designed HD DA15 F2.8 Limited?

Although I own the 18-135 and a Tamron 17-50 which are not very big, I still long for a small unobstrusive lens for street photograpy.

A Pentax HD-DA 24/3.2 limited therefore.

I would propably like to use it on the small unobstruvise Pentax DSLR I own, which ist the ist D*. So a screw drive would be mandatory .

I dream of it because it doesn't exist, but I'd love to see a DA 18 F/2.8 released because it would give me the (nearly) the same POV that I'm used to with a 28mm mounted to my film bodies.

That's not likely to happen, so I'm currently lusting after the DA21.
I'd love to see an 18mm lens too. I'd use it in dark crowded pubs where my 16-50mm is a major impediment to moving through the crowd, so it would be a balance between being as fast as possible and being compact as possible. To be realistic I think it would end up being within half a stop of f/2.4.

Reasonably compact and fast 18mm primes for APS-C are few and far between no matter what your brand of camera is; the only one I can think of is Fuji's f/2 lens for their mirrorless system.

I'd really like a 20-something mm WR or AW pancake prime. I have the 20-40 LTD, but it's bigger than the primes and it's my one lens that I don't trust to nail focus every time. Probably just my copy...

Or a 50-135 f/2.8 PLM.

Three fairly rare birds that I do own are the Pentax K 50/1.2 and 200/2.5 as well as the Takumar 35/2.3. So you could say those are my dream lenses.

Hmm interesting the FA 250-600 or the 67 800mm of lenses that exist seems pretty tempting to me, of the dream lenses that Q 09 macro would be nice

Something for K-01

That would go really well with my K-01.
Unfortunately it never went into production.

This is actually a tricky question, since there are so many different purposes for which I might dream of a new lens.

  1. Best (most dreamful) of what I already have: DA* 60-250 (my only * lens so far and the most expensive too)
  2. What I would like to have next (of existing models): DFA 150-450 ... for longer reach even w/o teleconverter, ... OR perhaps HD FA 1,8/31 Limited just for its fame
  3. What I wish Pentax (Ricoh) to release some day: DFA 18 with max aperture 2,0 or larger. (Thus eagerly waiting for further information of the forthcoming DFA 21...)
Another dream is, that 3rd party manufacturers (like Sigma) return to increase their supply of modern K-mount lenses, so there might be something to dream of also beyond Pentax brand lenses.

And all this applies to today only. Tomorrow my dreams may already be slightly different!
