My dream Pentax lens is the DA* 35mm f/1.4, but it doesn't exist...

A lighter weight wide angle zoom, is that possible, I see it elsewhere but not in Pentax. Of course the limited primes are amazing for apsc but taking this view into full frame would be wonderful.

That's why it is a dream............ But I doubt that will ever happen. Now DFA*35 f/1.4? Maybe.

A smaller F4 version of the the 16-50 would be quite interesting or the 11-18 and the 50-135. There are of course alternatives to those lenses already but still I'd find that series and their quality in a smaller lighter package, quite appealing.

Also, a 135 f2 would be interesting imo. I keep wanting to try a nice fast prime in that range, I guess I can try the Rokinon one that gets a ton of good reviews, but I wonder if I would need af at dof that shallow.

It won't ever happen, but the FA Limiteds in WR barrels and with new motors.

Alternatively, a compact HD DFA 21-63 f/4 WR. That would be my ideal urban walkaround lens.

This I hope becomes a DFA Limited after the 21... Something along those lines at least.

I already own a copy of the Tokina you mention. I don't find it especially sharp until f8. The Sigma seems better although build quality isn't so hot and I don't think the MF version is all that good. It got to be pretty decent by the Super Wide II AF version but out of focus rendering can be pretty crazy. I'm sort of searching for a needle in a hay stack with this one. The Miranda branded 24mm which I think Cosina produced seem good. There's others as well.

If I didn't care about size and weight I'd just go looking for a Sigma 24mm EX DG f1.8 but they're not small and that's the point of that kit.
I think the Exakta-branded 24/2.8s are also Cosina made, but I think I only saw those in K or KR mount, not sure about KA. I was close to getting one but decided I wanted 20mm instead

Serkevan: It seems like Cosina sold to a number of rebadge outfits at the time. It's hard to know which of those oddball 3rd party 24's are good and which aren't really worth paying for. I don't need the A position so it's fine if the lens in question doesn't have it.

Then it would cease to be a dream as it'd be too big.

This would be nice, they could have made the HD FA 35/2 WR which would have been good. Too slow to be a dream lens though.

Not sure there would be much difference in size between a DA*35 f/1.4, and a DFA*35 f/1.4. Maybe a little. But the DA 35 f/2.4 is not significantly different in size from the FA 35mm f/2. Going to f/1.4 and the current modern design standard is going to result in a larger lens whether its APS-C only or not.

Pentax needs a hot 35mm k-mount lens for their full frame camera & lens collection. It wouldn't make sense for them to create an APS-C-only 35mm lens today.

APS-C shooters already have, for small 35mm lenses, the FA 35, DA 35 Ltd, and DA 35 plastic lenses. "We" aren't hurting for choices there.

If it is good as the other new DFA * primes I would be all over that for astro. Running at about f/2 and 35mm with great results would be a dream instead of starting at f/2.4 for not awful results with the DA 35/2.4.

I like the DA 20-40 Limited, so now I'm holding out some hope for a short telephoto version. I'm thinking something like a APS-C crop 45-90mm f.2.8-4, which is fairly compact and light (around 400g). Does that seem feasible?

I think it is likely to happen, but not for a while. I mean it is likely that it is on the Pentax wish list but whether it ever happens, who knows. The fact that they just updated the FA 35mm means to me that other projects will be in line first.

I don't think the HD updates to FA-series lenses take up a lot of R&D time or effort... they just did the three princesses in one go. But it's interesting that they *didn't* update the old FA 50/1.4 in a similar fashion - maybe because of the DFA★ 50/1.4?
Frankly, if I were to bet, I'd say that next lenses (after the DFA 21 Limited) are two telezooms (consumer-grade FF + DA★ 50-135/2.8 w/new AF to round out the APS-C trinity), and after that the DFA★ wide angle, f/1.4 prime. No idea on which one they'll want from 24/28/35, though.
