Pentax K-3 III reviewed in Australian Photography August 2021

I can't recall/find any existing thread on this review, but it is very positive. The summary:

"The K-3 III is a new chapter in the Pentax story and brings the DSLR as a whole kicking and screaming into 2021. A genuine option for those who would prefer to stick with a bullet-proof DSLR, complete with a build quality that could survive an apocalypse, wildlife photographers in particular will be checking out this camera with interest."

Lots of positives: "quantum leap in autofocus", impressive image quality, operation quick and efficient, fairly priced. Makes the observation that a tilting screen would have been good, but points out that the screen has high resolution and brightness can be varied. The reviewer used the camera in the field with the 150-450.

In contrast to some other recent reviews, I took a chance and actually read this one.

Although very high level (as with other reviews thus far), it's more informative than Amateur Photographer's dreadful effort (if any effort was involved), and refreshingly neutral on the DSLR vs mirrorless debate, with no contentious, personal opinions on the future of the brand either. A bit more depth and detail, and this would be a great review. As it stands, it's nonetheless a fair, objective, unbiased and positive piece, and I really appreciate that. Kudos to Australian Photographer and the author for keeping an open mind

Surprisingly positive, I think it is first review that is not concentrating on fact that it is DSLR or/and APSC and because of it doomed. Thanks for sharing.

Fair and reasonably argumenting reviews are always very welcome. Even if there's something to be criticized (though not much of K-3iii).

Surprisingly positive. A bit brief, of course, but perhaps can raise people's curiosity towards the camera/brand.

If I read it properly, the camera also has a crop mode? What's the effective MP and does it increase the FPS? I am tempted by a camera I have no need for but.........I WANT ONE

Thanks for doing that. I bought the magazine. Didn't think they would have the current issue avaulable digitally yet.

Although I never see other Pentax shooters in Australia, the surprising number of Aussie members on PF suggests they're out there. This nice review suggests there is still some sort of profile in the country.

There’s a 1.3x crop available for stills*, and the movie mode reduces to 3840x2160 pixels in 4k mode (from 6192x4128 RAW).

I’m rather hoping for a square mode, as with the K-1/ii.

* which reduces the pixel count to about 15.1MP.

Yes, it has a 1.3x crop mode, but this doesn't increase the FPS. I think you'd get about 15-16MP.

I didn't see anything in the review saying it was "fairly priced". I did see
"That said, while great, it’s not completely perfect due to that frustrating LCD design and a premium price-tag."
