Calling a "Print" is odd to me if used for darkroom silver process.
From inkjet printer, it's a print. On silver paper not so much.
On canvas, it's a print.

I have a friend in my art guild who paints on wood............. Just saying. She sells way more than the painters using canvas. Way, way more.

Then we have chemical prints, inkjet "prints", dye-sublimation "prints".................... and the list goes on. The terms don't bother me as long as the technical specifications are spelled out by a seller. If a seller lists a canvas print, I want to know what process put the print on the canvas.

Ironic since printing with light has been called that since the late 1800’s. Printing in any form seems to me to mean making a semi-permanent image that relies on reflected light to be viewed.

My confusion may come from the nature of the work print in other languages, as it can even mean pressure, or press.

I once studied Intaglio printing briefly. I understand that mindset all too well. The printing press is where printing became accessible and revolutionized the distribution of written text.

A print's a print, regardless of substrate.

It’s not silver paper, it’s a paper base with an emulsion of gelatine and silver halides coating one side. I wouldn’t call a machine that squirts ink at paper a printer, but “inkjet printer” is the official name.

Hairsplitting is such fun, anyone else care for a go?

Ilfochrome and Duratrans were printed, using light on both sides of the process, for example.

"Printed on stretched canvas" or simply "Print on Stretched Canvas".

Huh? What is silver-based output called then?

(...made potato prints in grade school...silkscreens at a later date...no press, no printer, either one...)
