news alert

not everything read ends up being true when you track it down

anything is possible

" cash award " sounds like if the story is true, it was a civil lawsuit

not the possibility of a criminal prosecution which is what I was discussing

Go on, just try to find a native K-mount microscope adapter. Or a modern tilt-shift. And let's not even open up the P-TTL can of worms. Seriously, you just don't want it.

I would not call 5 out of 53 stores "all their locations". Competitor CVS only has 22 stores in the city. While theft is a serious issue, I suspect market saturation is also a factor.

Yes, that was my understanding as well. I could feel the pain of robbed, but chasing and hitting thieves with the car was not that smart. Especially given the fact how hard it is to fix the Tesla. I read that there are not that many car shops authorized to work on Tesla and people waits for several months to have them fixed.

Yes, it was tortious. As I said, "He sued the homeowner". The news story made no mention of criminal prosecution.

EDIT: Just to clarify, this is not internet rumor. It was a news article years before Al Gore invented the internet.

It is not clear which gear was stolen. Based on the car he is driving (Tesla) it is for sure expensive.

Scary times. And it is not even Halloween yet.
According to his website he uses Sony.

Well they can follow me home and attempt the same thing. I just hope they are willing to give their life to attempt to steal my gear. I'm a vet of 12 years. When I shoot I don't miss!

My feelings as well.
To those who make their living preying on others: Attempting to victimize this old man is not a career advancing move.

Everyone's missing the two most extraordinary aspects of this story. A photographer that can afford a Tesla. And the getaway car that had its real licence plates.

On his site https://louischan.photo/about this photographer tells about himself: "Systems IT by day". If he works for some big high tech company his salary is OK. Definitely three digits and quite possible first digit is not "1". In our area it is not that rare. About robbers with real license plate on gateway car. What can I tell? For sure they are not "Systems IT by day".

Sony is quite popular in the US. We are on the safe side with Pentax, as it's harder to sell in the used market, thieves wouldn't take such risks if they knew the gear was a bunch of M42 Takumar. I've wondered if I owned a Fuji GFX100, how safe/risky it would be to travel in poor countries.
