Camera Elo ratings

May be of interest and discussion worthy....

The 20 Best DSLR as of October 2021

Of some note they rank the new K3III near the very top in third place, and ahead of some better known and well-regarded cameras such as the Nikon D850 and Canon 5D mkIV.
The rankings are "based on a transparent comparison of a large number of cameras across a wide range of body, sensor and feature characteristics.", and updated as new DSLR's are released.

The K1 II also comes in 7th, which is very creditable.

Still, a single number cannot really "rate" something as complex as a DSLR, as they all have their specialisations and design choices.

Eh? Someone didn’t get the memo…. DSLRs are dooooomed, as simply everyone knows.

Anyway, ELO means Electric Light Orchestra to my generation.

I've seen Elo in sports, but never thought to see it applied to cameras.

Sorry all, it's not an issue with firefox, it was due to the add blocker applied.

There are great models in the ratings. Considering the pro body in the first place, Pentax is doing really well. The Nikon is of the few I’ve used and it’s a damn good camera. Next goal is to get my hands on the K-3iii.

I mostly think of it in terms of Chess. FIDE Online. FIDE Top players - Standard Top 100 Players December 2021

The World Championship is on right now in Dubai and so far there are four draws. Hopefully we don't have a repeat of last championship when every single game ended in a draw. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-worlds-best-chess-players-are-too-good-to-win/

I's an interesting approach on principle, but:
QuoteQuote:
While the Camera Elo is more transparent and more consistent than some other camera review-ratings, it still involves some reviewer choices. In particular, the scores from the CAM-parator app, which serve as input for the rating, are a simple count of relative body, sensor, and feature advantages. All identified differences carry equal weight.
This "uniform importance" weighing scheme will perhaps not correspond to your personal requirements,...
At that point, I became much less convinced about real-life usefulness of that indicator
Furthermore, note that the top DSLR (Canon 1D X Mark III) is only #26 (!) across camera types. Basically the whole top-25 is mirrorless, which makes you wonder about the aforementioned criteria choice (for instance does "EVF" count as a plus or minus compared to OVF?)

They missed the K-S1 with its 558g for the "Lightweight" category. It would have been 2 places better than the K-S2 which is 16th with its 678g
