Always worth taking a look at them. Sometimes it's to save money, sometimes it's to go for a different "look" or experience, and sometimes it's because there is no modern equivalent.

Yes, of the systems around the Canon one appeals now that Canon finally produce decent sensors. Unfortunately the cheapest model in the R series uses an old, crappy sensor.

Realistically, I wanna get some lenses for the K-70. A limited normal to wide and maybe an ultra wide for interior photography. Less realistic, getting a nice home darkroom to develop and print. I’ve stopped since I moved. It’s been +2 years ...
The DA 12-24 isn’t a bad option.
Ultrawide to barely wide. The Sigma 18-35 is another option. Neither is a limited lens. The da 20-40 is wide to slightly telephoto. I own the two Pentax lenses but not the Sigma. I like the range on the 12-24 a lot and the range of the 20-40 is surprisingly useful as well.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ve been flirting with the 12-24... sounds and seems like a great lens.

One thing I'd be keen to get, at present, would be a cheaper and smaller camera.
I'm tossing up between some of the Fuji mirrorless (X-E1, X-E2, etc) but am a little dissuaded by being left-eye dominant which doesn't tally with rangefinder-style cameras (usually).

ooooooooh

a nice longer telephoto prime is missing from my lineup...

I'd really love to replace my 18-135mm with the new 16-50 PLM...

yes, the 20-40 is on my list too

Or telephoto zoom. You know that 150-450 would suit your K-3iii very well...

To me the 16-50 and 18-135 are too different for one to replace the other. I don’t own the new PLM version but an f2.8 short range zoom doesn’t seem very similar to a walkabout variable aperture zoom with more focal length range. The edge to edge sharp images at 50mm can’t crop to 135 and the 18mm end of the walkabout isn’t wide enough or fast enough for some uses.

The 20-40 sits oddly in between in some ways. For me it fits when light weight trumps range and f2.8 at the wide end may be useful for dof reasons. In many cases I use it plus a da 50-135 as an alternative to the 18-135 when it isn’t quite the right lens to use.

In 2022 I would like to do the following (this is way more wide than just a lens or other piece of gear to acquire);

Get more serious about my events photography. Car shows and other automotive-oriented events, more bar bands. Also do a little couple's photos and head shots. Generally grow in that area.

I'd like to get my garage dark room together. There's an old bathroom in the garage I bought (next to the house I bought) that is ripe for serious demo/rebuild into a dark room.

I'd like to get a K-3 III and dedicate it to digital photography, relegating my K-5 II to copy stand work.

For glass, the following all interest me and maybe one of these will end up in my collection; The Pentax FA*85 f1.4, DA 70 SMC, and Sigma 12-24.

This is all still a hobby for me but I might want to change that a bit to secondary income stream starting slowly next year. That's a whole big thing that I need to figure out as well.

It might make more sense when considering I'd pair my hypothetical 16-50 with my 50-135 f/2.8.
Right now, I really only use my 18-135 as a kit lens equivalent.

I’ve carried that pairing before and I prefer the 15 /20-40 / 50-135 or 20-40 / 50-135 over carrying the 16-50 - and that’s the small non PLM version!

I think after seeing the nifty no GPS astrotracer shots posted today from the K-3iii that may have just moved up my list of things to buy and with the equatorial I want being backorderd for likely another 6 months and even then I might not get one I may just have to make the jump as that would be the only realistic way to get some extra benefit.

Top of my wish list, I want covid to be under control so I can take my 20-40 to Granada and some of the other places on my travel wish list, like Verona, Venice, Prague, Valencia, Salamanca, Copenhagen, tallin, not to mention returns to Rome, Cadiz, seville and Barcelona. Living in Europe is cool

In my list, there isn't much.

The main thing I would like to get lens wise is a 70-200 2.8. Sadly, with even used copies for the Pentax going for $1500, it's not going to happen. The good news about that is on the market place, there is a lens that I have been thinking about that I find as an acceptable replacement. It is not a 2.8 lens but a 3.8 lens.

The only other lens I would like to have is a *55 mm. That one though is not a must have. It would be just something to play around with along side my 40xs and my 50 1.8.

I'd love to get a K-3iii but, realistically, getting a second K-70 at about 1/4 the price would work for my needs.

(My K-70 takes great images at ISO 6400, but I could really use a second body for high ISO work.)
