Realistic photo wish list

We all have unrealistic wish lists, a K1 has been at the top of mine for years, closely followed by anything J-Limited, but I am talking here about lists that will be fulfilled in the foreseeable future. I find the lower places move around quite a bit but the top three (most searched for on ebay) stay fairly static. I have a great lens collection with one of each of the DA limiteds including the fabulous 20-40mm, and some decent zooms, not brilliant, but decent, so my LBA is in remission for now. I am always open to a bit of pre Christmas inspiration but for now my top three are

DA* 55mm f1.4, been top since I got the 20-40mm
Any FA 100mm macro
An older Pentax body converted to 590nm ir.

I have an old converted sony A100 but I would love to be able to use my Pentax lenses. It will happen, some time next year.

A realistic wish list, you say... Hmmm... Well, mine is pretty humble, I think:

- Pentax-F or FA28/2.8... Slower but smaller / lighter than the Sigma 30/1.4 Art I own and love, and would go nicely with my FA50/1.4 and HD FA35/2
- K-mount Sigma 18-200 Contemporary... better optically than the 18-300 I own but rarely use, and I can l live without the extra 100mm in return for better performance
- A fully-working half-frame 35mm camera (which, depending on some incoming deliveries, I may already have addressed )
- Two more OEM Sony batteries for my Hasselblad HV
- Two more OEM Sony batteries for my A7 MkII
- Some Ilford Ilfotec HC developer to use with my HP5+ 120 roll film (because Rodinal and HP5+ aren't so good together, apparently)
- In time, some different 35mm and 120 B&W films to try

Less realistic would be the new HD DA*16-50/2.8, but it's just too costly for me to justify

I think that's about it. I'm more-or-less satisfied with my current setup, and if anything I could do with paring it back a little

Well I've currently got a search setup on ebay for a z-1/z-1p or an MZ-5n, a black one, I've identified several film scanners which could be a target, my lens list is a da16-85, DA70 and possibly a 55-300 plm, though i have some personal reservations on that one but I'm not desperate to acquire any of them. I need to shoot more and acquire less.

Well, mine too. Mainly because I recently sold a lot of lenses that I have acquired from (mostly) eBay over the years; this enabled me to fund a completely unrealistic want

OTOH I actually think I have left myself with all the kit I need (and then some) and love to use so my realistic wish list consists of one lens which, unfortunately, hasn't been designed yet.

I use the A200/4 a fair bit but I would replace it with a shiny new DFA 200/4 in the style of the DFA 100 MacroWR and a filter size of 52/55mm possibly as much as 58mm but .....

I still own my original pz-1. Lovely camera.

Well I have a number of items flagged in a local buy/sell app for if & when I get funds. There's a bit of everything in there - film cameras, old manual lenses, the occasional modern lens (by which I mean it has AF)...

If I were to list unrealistic things it's be along the lines of a K3-III, HD DA* 16-50/2.8, HD FA Limiteds, K-1 or that some company bring out a mirrorless FF system that I can afford and that I like.

My unrealistic list is easier:
  • Adequate time to photograph things more frequently.
  • Time and money to travel more. (And safely given the wild situation)
  • A world where Pentax was viewed more favorably.
  • Take a photography trip with my dad. (He has too many mobility issues for most trips, won’t fly, can walk only in short bursts, etc. The trip would need to be car centric and adequately focused on his favored subjects, old barns. )

Realistic list?
  • Slim down my gear - I own too much. Too many systems, too many bits of gear sitting unused too long.
  • Take time to explore a topic or two in photography in a more disciplined way.
  • Organize my gear and my photos.
  • Setup a viewing method that cycles through my images.
  • Improve my knowledge of post processing - this may be an unrealistic one since time is very slim right now.

For me it's a new Bentley Flying Spur, to replace my ageing one.

Lady Kerrowdown apologises on my behalf... apparently.

The realistic, unrealistic and truth... all kinda blur like a good bokeh these days for the old Kerrowdown.

Hey Cerebum - I have good news - 590nm is in the yellow/orange range... so one of your wishes is already fulfilled!
Maybe you were thinking 720nm?

Thanks for a fun topic... you've got me thinking.
Cheers

Lol is it? My wife thinks I am kinda weird when it comes to ir. I like nothing better than to take a nice landscape then make the colour pallette go BOOM

Expectations vs. reality:
DFA 21 Ltd... => will likely start looking for a used FA20-35 instead
DA* 200mm => or maybe the A 200 f/4 is fine
Future "DFA 70-300mm" => hm, again, probably the A 200 looks a fine alternative

It's funny how the 20-40 Limited has slowly become a favourite. At it's introduction I recall it regularly getting panned.

(un) Realistic wish list is that I stick to whatever photo project I plan. Something always seems to get in the way ...
