Thank you! This is something very few question. As if the image that is projected onto the film/sensor magically is "true to reality". Your example of a drone shot is just one. There are a lot of ways to "manipulate" reality berfore you even press the shutter button.
- You choose a lens (lenses differ in colour rendering, contrast, distortion etc)
- You choose a focal length (perspective!)
- You choose an aperture (a shallow depth of field is a way of "removing" the background)
- You choose an exposure (even if you leave the choice to the light meter engineer)
- You choose a viewing angle (another way of removing unwanted elements in your image)
- You might physically move or remove objects
etc
I rarely see people discuss how using a tele lens is manipulation of reality because it compresses the scene. But we should, because it sure as heck is
not what you see.
Of course, my images are for a large part not meant to be journalistic. They are my attempt at being artistic. They are
