Wow you all have given me lots to think about and some great feedback! I'm usually reluctant to share photos for the purpose of feedback, but you have really helped. This picture's from a couple years back, I should have shared sooner.

I tried a portrait crop and can't get the composition right. I feel it needs a part of the window to give the picture context. Shooting a wider view would have helped (another lesson learned).

Thanks, Bob. Honestly it looks better on here than in Lightroom on my PC. My wife often reminds me that not everyone is going to overly scrutinize every pic I put out there. Most will give it a glance, say "Ooo nice shot" and move on.

Wow this really does make a difference! I've heard before that if you don't like a shot, you should try 2 things, crop it or try B&W. Seeing both approaches applied here really improves the image. Thanks!
Originally posted by AfterPentax Mark II I think it is a good picture, but spoiled by the colour. The B/W version gives your daughter's face a soft touch and shows more of her facial expression.
I agree! Thanks!

I'd like to see them and hear about them if you can.

I'd like to see it. BTW, "row of dinghies" would make a great rock band album name.

Of course! My trusty DA* 16-50mm F2.8. I actually sold it last year because I got a Sony A7III that I'm using primarily. But I had withdrawal, so I bought another copy.

Great advice. Thanks, Matt!

I've done that so many times myself. That's one reason I was so happy about this one, cause I was there and took the shot!
Originally posted by clickclick Luckily digital film isn't too expensive, and you can take a few extra shots to experiment with.
Another lesson learned. Looking back at my pictures from that very day I have like 20 shots of the same couch that I'll never look at again. But for whatever reason, I only took the one shot here.
