With regards to the camera as a tool for still image making, I would recommend 4x5" or 5x7" or 8x10" view cameras: capture tons of detail in one exposure, leaf shutter, ultra wide range of depth of field control, perspective control with shift, focus plane control with tilt, so far unmatched by any digital camera yet, except maybe view camera with digital back.
And what's more, you'll be supporting your local chiropractor too! It's a win for everyone!

Do you fine folks believe this to be true?
Was there a time when photographers would get together and share their work without any sense of social approval being involved? Or, is this an imagined past?
I'm guessing that anyone under the age of 40 or so will be fortunate enough not to be familiar with avocado bathroom suites, cheese and pineapple on a stick and those bloody dreadful slide show evenings the street got invited to....

If the camera doesn't matter then why would someone buy the most expensive one available? They seem to be saying one thing when meaning the exact opposite.

The camera does matter, as does the user's ability to choose the right one and learn to use it.

The M11 isn't for people who believe the camera doesn't matter, it's for people for whom $9000 doesn't matter.

IMO - the device industry - cameras, phones - is running out of bells and whistles they can entice customers with.

Absolutely.

Especially with phones we need need things to save us from the physical, mental and societal damage that all the current bells and whistles are causing...

For cameras, we need things that make us take better photos but I suspect that would be more removal of bells and whistles rather than adding more.

Even with the roll out of 5G, smartphone sales are dropping. You don't buy a new phone unless it has a new bell or whistle. A new ring tone isn't reason enough. Old school phones had bells that would ring, now we just have the tone.

If you want camera that requires skill I can give you my Zenit 3M for half the price of M11. No electronics at all, not even lightmeter - 100% mechanic. Dark viewfinder that covers around 50% of frame, and without focusing support at all - viewfinder is completely clear. Plus only 4 times (1/60, 1/125, 1/250, 1/500)
