Forum membership longevity

I stumbled into this thread:
Ned gets a new camera - PentaxForums.com

It struck me how few of these posters are still posting here. Then as in the past I wondered what happened to them. Did they move on? Did they pass away? Did they get banned? Do they still shoot Pentax?

Just musing.

Mine lapsed for a while (OK a few years) due to some serious health issues, but I came back still shooting Pentax.

There's a great many early members who still post regularly and a great many who don't.

Lots of fur and feathers flying in that thread ... some may have died of their wounds afterwards!

True enough. I found it interesting with the perspective of history. Ned’s blog is still there but not that post. It looks pretty inactive. I wonder if he passed away.

Edit: I found an instagram post that seems to be from him from this year. Using a GR it appears.

You seem very keen to categorize someone as deceased, UV, I think you're like the cart pullers in Monty Python's 'Holy Grail'.

Ned posted a pic taken with his GRIIIx yesterday on Instagram.

Lol. I just found that myself! I guess his blog is what died.

And he logged in just last month, looking at his "Last Activity" time-stamp... so it seems he survived "Leicagate" just fine

Pentax forums is like a big meeting room. Some enter, some leave, and some linger longer that is strictly decent. But I think some just can't find the exit.

People move on for a variety of reasons. I've been here since 2009 and can't seem to get away.

I think this is my answer for social media. Instagram and Facebook somehow don't seem quite as deep whereas here you can help and be helped with regard to a variety of subjects. But probably most of us spend a little too much time online.

This describes me perfectly...

I enjoy being here most of the time. Sometimes I get frustrated by certain discussions, trends and/or just a few individual members, and take a break... but I always seem to come back. I've no interest in Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and other social media. For the most part, I enjoy the interaction here, and - like you - I appreciate being able to ask for advice or assistance and provide it when I'm able. And, yes, I spend a little too much time online

"Not dead yet " or "Only mostly Dead"

I often wonder how many of the people in the "Welcomes and Introductions" section are still active 365 days later.

I follow Ned on flickr - he posts occasionally, almost exclusively with Pentax gear....

Instagram and Facebook seem to be shallow, for lack of a better word. You post a nice image and your friends give you likes and say, "Great image," but that feel pretty empty. More than that, a nice landscape image gets a lot less interaction there than a so-so snap shot of your kids. That's fine, but it doesn't feel like it encourages me to grow in photography.
