Is Your Camera Your "BELOVED"?

.
I about lost my lunch when I read yet another for sale ad here on PF where the seller expressed serious remorse in having to sell his "BELOVED" Pentax camera. Why do sellers keep calling their camera gear "BELOVED"? If the sellers' gear is really that special to him, then why is he even selling it?

I only see this adjective used to describe more expensive camera gear. For example, I've never seen a battery grip or a camera strap called "BELOVED". Maybe the seller thinks that by using such a gentle/loving/affectionate term he'll fetch a higher price because the buyer will believe the camera has been taken better care of?

I don't even call my wife "BELOVED", Probably the closest I've ever been to an inanimate object was the relationship I had with my rifle while in the US Army. I always slept with my rifle when in the field, yet I never referred to it as my "BELOVED" rifle.

Because "BELOVED" is so overused, maybe the next time that I sell my camera I'll have to come up with a new descriptor - what do you think of: darling, sweetheart, precious, sweetie, or cherished???? .

Overstatement seems to be part of the contemporary world. Perhaps it’s a result of affluence, loss of religiosity or the dominance of the consumer economy and the cult of “masstige”. I find it slightly irksome, just like when people tack the word “proud” in front of their self-identifier.

Ultimately, over-used words become “weasel” words: words that have had the meaning sucked out of them, like a weasel sucks the innards out of an egg.

If so I am rather unfaithful, as I have so many...

It's a term that is likely exaggerated, but many do feel fondly of their gear. Some who have left Pentax return, saying that they like the feel of the cameras and didn't connect with others.

Live and let live is my motto...

Language is flexible, and always dependent on context.
I can say I 'love' my Darn Tough socks, and that I 'love' my new job, and that I 'love' my mother, and that I 'love' my girlfriend, and the reader should be able to infer that I mean something different in each instance.

If I ever sell anything that I have enjoyed the use of it will undoubtedly be in well used condition, My sigma 100-300mm f/4 is well and truly battered lens but I have had a blast using it. If I ever sell anything in mint or pristine condition, that is a telling factor as to how useful it was to my work. Even my most valued posessions I would never refer to as beloved.

I am extremely attached to my KP and I love using it but it is over egging it. Its often used sarcastically here "the town planners, beloved by so many..." But that wouldn't fit either. I think I will go with @Paulh s definition as I would definitely react like gollum if anyone tried to take my precious KP.

Re, words that have been killed for me, "Awesome" Everest is awesome, travelling 1000 miles in a wheelchair for charity is awesome, posting a letter or having a long awaited bodily function isn't. Sorry, I expect it now from Kardashians but it winds me up when English people try to be American, and don't get me started on middle class boys from Leicestershire talking Gangsta lol

Kind Regards
