I just accidentally stumbled upon a free app from a German university which can automatically identify plants:
https://floraincognita.com/
I tried it and do find it absolutely excellent. It helps me (completely undereducated when it comes to identifying plants) easily know the name of a flower I see (and take a photo of).
So if you like shooting flowers outside or even if you are just hiking and wonder what it is - it helps. Take a smartphone photo and it will tell you.
It also keeps track of all observations and will show them on a map. You don't even need to create an account (though I did that so I can share the findings within the family, all using the same account).
That really is one great usage of image recognition technology.
