Was trying to get honest reviews of the current crop of UV filters, and quite a few photo magazines seem to think modern produced film has no need of UV filter.
As far as I know, both panchromatic b&w and color negs and slides are all sensitive to UV. Can you share any links to articles where a magazine or website make claims UV is not needed?
Before we reduced the depth of the ozone layer, UV was much more a problem at high altitudes, but now, you can have excessive UV at sea level.
If I'm shooting indoors or at night, I'll take off the UV filter, especially now that LEDs are often the indoor light source and do not have UV in their spectrum (unless it's specially a UV light for plant growth).
Where UV is not needed at all is with digital cameras. And for what it's worth, clear glass does filter out a majority of UV, but that last 2-15% can be enough to cause over exposure (the light meter measures visible light; not UV) and a blue cast.
