Pentax SV ... you can tell by the lil 'V' pointing forwards on the bottom of the film rewind crank side.
That crank is also a unique self-timer and that V is the position the timer is currently in.
The V stands for 'Vorlaufwerk' which is German for a 'gear-box' or delay timer.... popular feature/letter on Leica's at the time

I'm not an expert in this, but I believe it looks most like an Asahi Pentax SV.

That model seems to fit with the features which are visible, with the age of McCartney at the time (earlier haircut style), and with the years of manufacture of 1962 through 1968.

What other models have you seen listed?

also should note: the Beatles used various early Pentax cameras, not just the SV.

The one George is holding in the image above looks like what my dad had (he had two) before he got a KX. What model would that be?

The image doesn't show many details, but it may be the same model that Paul has in the OP photo. There are many similarities, as far as we can see. Asahi Pentax SV

They all look like the SV. The picture in the airplane is showing a Type 1 clip on meter.

Thanks,
Ismael

woop! very well might have shared too quick.
wouldn't it be funny if that was the exact same camera??

anyway - although my picture is misleading - I'm pretty darn sure the Beatles used more than just the SV...

Here is another "camera" they used. It could be a rebranded Pentax.
The Beatles and their giant 'Beatax' camera - Kosmo Foto

It also has some info on what cameras the Beatles used. (which link back to Pentaxforums)

I've seen pictures of them using a chrome camera as well, most likely an S2.

Nice bit of product placement - who of today's 'celebrities' using Pentax would raise Ricoh's / Pentax's profile ? I can recall advertisements featuring Sam Haskins and the late great Spike Milligan.

Paul McCarthy's Eyes of the Storm

The Chrysler Museum in Norfolk, VA is showcasing of Paul McCarthy's evocative photographs, all of which came alive through the lens of a Pentax camera through April 2024.

Check out my walk through the Eyes of the Storm exhibit.
