Relaxing Excitement
Lens: DA 10-17mm Camera: Pentax K-r

Shot with a K-r + DA10-17

My intention was to photograph the fireworks themselves, but I noticed that the light from the fireworks gave an interesting foreground effect to the people watching. After a day full of parades and family and Rita's Italian Ice, my son was so happy laying there absorbing it all, and using the fish-eye I was able to frame both him and the fireworks in an interesting way. I only wish I had a tripod, I would've experimented with some longer exposures.

I used lightroom to lighten the greens a little, which I thought added more of a transition between the foreground and background.

I nominate this photo.
It is a great scene to any movie with fireworks and little boy who either doesn' t care what is going on around him, or just relaxing observing the fireworks or his girlfriend who just diappeared in the bushes and...warm summer evening...

I nominate this photo for its composition and lighting (combining the light of the fireworks with lighting of the boy in the foreground).

I like the balanced composition: boy on one end and fireworks on the other. Would be great if you had a tripod - could use a bigger DOF. Anyway I nominate this photo.

I nominate this photo.

Reminds me of the work of Gregory Crewdson.
Great light and quite the story told by contrast of the fireworks spectacle and the laid back boy.

I nominate this photo. Love the noise (intentional or not), makes it look like an old film photo.

Almost a painting-like scene.. very 'story telling' as the overused phrase goes.. haha

Nominated.

Nominated! The effect of the fireworks on your boy is surreal- wonder and awe with a bit of roughness, like he's seen fireworks before and trying to be super cool about it while inside, he's very excited.

I nominate this photo.

There's a surreal quality to it. It looks like it would have had to been done with multiple photos put together at first.
