Great capture; agree with most others on the building - one of the most recognizable pieces of architecture erected in the last half century and lends cultural context essential to the full impact of the shot. If I'd seen this shot in a magazine, I'd have dismissed it as a deliberate composition.

Very nice, The building helps with knowing where the shot was taken, too.

great shot !
Didn't even know bikinis were allowed on the beach in Dubai...
How does one nominate a picture? You have my vote if I get to know where to click...

You nominate by either making a comment or saying you nominate the picture, in which case you have already nominated the picture by commenting on it.

I nominate this. The title describes it well. I also like the building in the background, I think it further enhances the contrast between old traditions and a modern world.
me too

I find the building debate interesting...
... I cloned it out and didn't spend much time on it just for comparison sake.

Seems to me there is two ways of looking at it - as Journalism or Art.
They both have their strengths.

What do you think?

The second picture certainly is 'cleaner' with the subject matter, but it looks contrived without the context setting of the building.

For me, it works as a great photograph without the building.
With the building, it works as an iconic photograph that tells
the complete visual story of life in Dubai.

The building in the background is the iconic and famous Burj in Dubai. Without it, it could have been anywhere in the world. It gives context and tells a story. In fact the comment is quite unnecessary. The picture tells the whole story much better than any words will. The representative from one world is sitting still, but looking towards the other that is marching on! Now the caption may need some work...

Fantastic photo though.
