Succulent
Lens: Canon 7.3 - 29.2 mm - f/2.8-4.1 Camera: Canon Powershot A630

A succulent plant, photographed with a Canon Powershot A630 using CHDK for RAW capture. CHDK stands for "Canon Hack Development Kit", a custom firmware package. The software adds capabilities to Canon point-and-shoot cameras normally found on high end compacts and DSLRs (RAW format, for example), as well as custom controls such as intervalometer shooting, exposure bracketing, and trap-focusing.

One of my earlier, serious attempts at digital only photography (i.e. not scanned film), I made three bracketed exposures for the purposes of combining them later in Photoshop. This wasn't for the purpose of making an HDR image, although the final file did see the benefits of extended dynamic range. Rather, the technique allowed Photoshop to "average out" the noise typically found in cameras with small sensors.

I nominate this photo. Nice the way every detail is pulled out. Lighting is exceptional too.

Enjoy the lighting... almost has a painting-like effect on it. Nominated.
