Lake of the Sky
Lens: DA 40mm Limited Camera: K-7

This photo was taken within a day or two of getting my K-7, which was a big upgrade from my *istD. This was my first opportunity to take a real picture with the camera, and I was overjoyed to find this lonely sail boat out on the lake with this incredible sky. I took several shots with the DA 40, the DA 21 and the FA 24-90. I waffle between which of the series I like the best. Developed from raw in Lightroom, but it looks very close to the straight from camera jpg.

I definitely like it too ! Love the muted colours , the sky is very picturesque and I really like the contrast between the boat and white sail and that ditant hill - well done - a nomination from me !

Lenticular clouds... a pretty rare sight here in Naples. Pleasing shot.

I nominate this photo.

Thanks for nomination. As I mentioned above, I tried a few different focal lengths on this subject. This one emphasizes the boat and flattens the image into more graphic, abstract shapes. The wider focal lengths emphasize the sky, as well as bringing more depth to the subject. I posted a couple of variations taken at 21mm and 24mm on the photo sharing thread: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/12-post-your-photos/260879-landscape-vari...-lake-sky.html. I would be interested in what people of the different variations.

I personally thing that you have chose the best shot for your K3 Contest entry ! In this versions the overall composition is very balanced and all parts of the photo nicely complement each other - those versions from the link ( 21 DA and zoom ) I find personally less appealing and unbalanced .

Best of luck !

Yes - I think you submitted the best of the three - but from other two linked in that post with variations, I liked the most the first photo , with grey colour palette .

Wish you luck with your entry !
