This is a nice old barn. I took a few photos earlier in the day and then came back, when I had returned another photographer was taking photos with a couple for wedding pictures. I took some more photos, they were not really in the way since they didn't show up too well in my photos. I left and drove around some more, hoping that the sun would color the clouds as it set. It looked like it might not happen, since there was little color as the sun approached the horizon. However, a little while after it disappeared below the horizon, the colors started to take off. I turned around and headed back to the barn. Since I had positioned myself earlier, I had a better idea of how I wanted to frame the flowers and barn. I took several shots and custom tweaked the white balance so it was more true to the reds I was seeing in person.
The final result is from three shots hand blended together, one for the sky, one for the foreground and one for the barn, each with a different exposure setting. The foreground shot also had a different focus setting.
I had been meaning to photograph these types of flowers for weeks, but just couldn't get around to it. Pretty soon they would be in danger of withering for the season. I had planned to photograph this particular scene a couple days before but caught a cold and then had to go into work as well. I'm glad it worked out that when I was able to fit it into my schedule that the sky was photogenic. The following day (today) there is not a cloud in the sky and the sunset was quite uneventful.
