M31
Lens: Orion 800mm Camera: Pentax K5IIs

I took this image of M31 last Sept (2013) about 30-40 minutes outside of the main city lights. Andromeda Galaxy was to large for the focal length to capture it in one image so I ended up imaging the left half and than the right half and stitching them together. Hence the panoramic format of the image. Total Exposure time for both halves was just shy of 3 hours.

Nominated! That is quite a technical feat and the result is beautiful! There was a time when only well funded observatories could do something like this. You have shown that backyard astronomy at this scale is accessible to anyone.

I nominate this image, high quality image for this type of photography, much effort in the hours for exposure, excellent results/good definition of the galaxy
