Ancient Chinese Monastery in the Mist
Lens: SMC-FA*28-70mm Camera: MZ-3

This Monastery is built, cut into, the side of a shear rock face. It was cold, misty, rainy that day. I could not see the mountain top or the valley floor below. I'm guessing about 500-600' up(my SWAG). Shooting was a 'bit cramped', I zoomed out as far as I could with my feet, without falling to my death. I had to be patient to get this shot. The area right in front of me was usually full of other tourists, it eventually cleared out and I pulled the trigger. The girl as the only person left in the scene was pure luck. My own tour group was yelling behind me, "we're leaving without you"! Good thing I'm in decent shape and do not get lost easily, catching back up was no problem

I'm very glad the girl is in this photograph. Her presence lends scale to the scene, and subject contrast. A very young and pretty Chinese maiden dwarfed by a very old and somewhat ugly Chinese Monastery. Without her presence, I feel this photograph would be just ho-hum. Soon, her generation will own and hopefully maintain these sites.

Portrait orientation film shots do not display well on computer screens, do they? I'm having to scroll up-n-down to see the entire photograph.

The composition wise this shots slightly missing the target - the viewer is led by the perspective up above that balcony however the main interest lies at the bottom-right of the frame - where the girl is as the human eye is naturally executing the recognition of another human being.. So as a architectural shot it fails but as an interesting artistic composition it does have a lot to offer..
I adore the light and the processing - so different and painterly-like therefore I would like to nominate this !

I really like this photograph, though I can't really say why. I think it's because it keeps my eyes constantly moving. The light captured is wonderful.

Nominated.

Thank you, all of you, for taking the time to look at, and comment on, this photograph from our last trip to China.

I'm very glad the girl is in this photograph. Her presence lends scale to the scene, and subject contrast. A very young and pretty Chinese maiden dwarfed by a very old and somewhat ugly Chinese Monastery. Without her presence, I feel this photograph might be just ho-hum.

I nominate this photo!

It's beautifull ambiance shot
Composition is not standard but I like the perspective.

The tone rendering is just perfectly rendered with great art.

I love it. One of my favorite in this contest.
