hello!
i went to school for sculpture, but have always taken pictures. i put an ad on craigslist for models, and hire one at a time, sight unseen. i had to pick up this model at a gas station... i was super nervous!she was super nervous! i set up this shoot in my garage over the winter. it was freezing, but i pulled a friend's enclosed trailer into the garage, put two electric heaters in it, crammed in all of the lighting, tripod, computer (i usually plug the camera into the pc so i can see the results immediately on a large screen... i use a free program called pk tether), myself and a model. it was a 6x10 trailer, so not a lot of room in there... but the heaters did a great job and i didn't manage to pinch any of the extension cords wedged thought the closed trailer door. i set up the lights(this picture i'm using a clear(not frosted) blue incandescent bulb) and the background (foil faced insulation). after 10 minutes of working, i wasn't as nervous and neither was she. i give almost no direction to my models. i'm now using a k-5(used, thanks forum!), wish i had it for this shoot! at least i was able to buy(ebay) the 50mm 1.4 in time! the light/dark is hard to balance in this photo... it depends how light or dark your monitor is, and what kind of monitor you're using. no post processing except for scale and brightness(changes for the monitor i use, and will change again to calibrate for printer). she replied to my cl call for model because she had recently lost 100 lbs, her body covered in stretch marks. a constant reminder of what she had to do to insulate herself.
