THE SHEARER
Having been given the honour to compete in this 2nd round one of my personal aims is to give a New Zealand flavour to my submission.
What better opportunity could there be than to record my shearer, Keith, hard at work shearing my flock.
After all there is over six sheep for every person living in New Zealand.
Keith usually shears around 200 sheep in an 8 hour day so every sheep is shorn in a timeframe of less than 2 minutes. So you can understand this is action photography.
The art of shearing a sheep is with a set choreography of about 40 shearing “blows” depending very much on the cooperation of the sheep. And one of the key skills involved is the footwork that keeps control of the sheep.
Thank you for taking a glimpse of my world.
