Given that the contest is in the macro subforum, should the my entry pic be macro?

I believe, it should be. All entries should be macro shots. After all this is the Macro Forum we're posting in. But the details are up to the OP and we'll have to abide by his rules, not what we think it should be.

This is the comments thread , so if you have something to say , please say it here

For going in the draw , please post photos in this thread https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/177-macro-photography/263659-keep-green-w...cro-flash.html

Theme is green , and there is no actual rule that says the picture has to be Macro , though the sub forum is Macro .
Still , I'm trying to encourage participation .

Pentax forums is a great place , and its made better by participation .
Imagine a forum where no one did anything , said anything , or shared anything .

I asked this over at the post your photo thread. So, since this is the comment thread, how many photos are we allowed to have in this contest?

Oh, and is this Pentax camera only or other cameras allow. (I'm pretty sure that question will come up too)

One POST for entering the give away , no restrictions on how many pictures in that post ( how many do you need ? )
Its a lucky dip , NOT judging photos .

As for the camera , I have not made any rules regarding the camera ..

This is a Pentax forum , and the flash rig works with Pentax cameras , anyone using a different camera ?

Then I guess it would silly for non Pentax users to post a photo for this contest, now wouldn't it.

I have amended my first post to hopefully clear things up a little ..
Hmmm , the flash works in Manual mode on my D3200 , in green mode ?

Looks good on the revision. Though it works on your D3200, it might not work on other cameras and the main reason I asked that question.

Thanks for clearing up the initial rules and answering my questions.

I just realized an omission :
I havent talked about the Macro Flash at all ... Yikes !

It is a very basic unit ( I think most people can see that )
It is intended for use in Manual mode , so I hope no one is expecting TTL .
So for anyone not knowing :

Most of us Macro shooters , we shoot in manual mode .
F stop , shutter speed and ISO are all pre set to work with the flash .
You set your working magnification on the lens and focus distance , and then physically move the camera and yourself until the subject is in focus and shoot .
You can use Auto focus if you have such a lens , but on small subjects they tend to focus hunt , this can = time and noise giving your subject time to leave in a hurry .

So most macro photographers have everything pretty much pre set for a quick photo opportunity .
Anyhow , this does no mean you cant use auto focus , because you can . It just means the camera needs to be manually set ( ISO , Shutter , and aperture )

I knew I forgot something ..

Most macro shooters, er, photographers don't recommend using AF. Those of us who use extension tubes, or closeup filters or other means, can't do AF anyway. And using AF on any lens other than a true macro lens, just doesn't work. By the time you found the focus, like Old says, your subject may be gone. Plus using any other than true macro, by the time your AF finds focus, then it no longer is macro. Because the way to focus is as Old said, you have to move you and your camera in and out until you get focus. And one other thing I do, don't know if others do this but I set my lens on the infinity mark. Then if you're trying to use AF, you won't be on infinity after the AF does its thing.

Macro

I shot the grasshopper photo I posted earlier with a 300mm lens on a tripod because my macro lens was out of service. I liked the challenge. This season I'm hoping for another opportunity with grasshoppers using macro rings. The flash unit would come in handy for a lot of night time situations.
