Macro Filter Project

OK, so this may not be true macro-photography in the purest sense, but it was a quick and fun little project.

I recently came across a Tamron Adaptall-2 80-210mm that should have been retired long ago. Not wanting to trash it completely, the original owner handed it over for me to 'play' with. He swore up and down he didn't want it back, so I took the liberty of breaking it down to "see what I could see". For the quick and easy solution, I came up with a macro filter using the second interior element and an old UV filter ring.

Image 2 - SMC Pentax-DA L 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 AL Kit Lens with homemeade macro filter

That poor little 50mm has been through some rough times...

I just did this with an element from an old Tokina 35-300, on a 18-135. While there is some vignetting, the IQ is surprisingly good.

Just a test shot:

I'll be trying to get some actual shots later. You can actually get really close with this, don't know yet what magnification though.
