How many of you macro shooters

use LV instead of the VF?

I have tried using LV but it just isn't working for me. So what do you say?

With the Q, yes -- because there's no other choice.

With the K10D, no -- because there's no other choice.

With the K-5, rarely. K-5 LV isn't the greatest and my main use for it is focusing in very low light.

With the k-5 / k-5IIs sometimes.

With the k-3, almost always if I'm using the tripod. Focus peaking really does help.

Tried it with the K30, but the mirror movement with each exposure just introduces camera shake, so it's either hand held or, if using a tripod, VF and self timer for me!

Okay thanks, baro-nite and jatrax. I guess with me using the VF it's more comfortable and the way I used to do when doing macro with film. I heard of others using LV and tried it, was not impressed.

And I still haven't worked out how you all use a Tripod while shooting macro. I mean, with me, I have to move the camera in and out to get focus. How's that work for moving a tripod in and out?

I only use a tripod inside usually, so I can move either the tripod or the subject / shooting surface. Outside there's usually enough light, and I feel a tripod is just too cumbersome.

No live view for me unless it's my K-01, and i rarely use the K-01 with a macro lens. All this raving about live view for macro, leaves me scratching my head.

A royal pain. Just getting the tripod to approximately the right position in the first place is a pain. Once there, though, a macro rail or at least a long rail attached to the camera plate (I use Arca-Swiss compatible tripod heads) really helps.

Thanks Norm, Baro-nite and jatrax. I don't use a tripod because I found it impossible to maneuverer where I need it to get the shots. I do use a monopod on occassion and it works fairly well. My Bug shots from Single in August were shot using the monopod. The flower on flickr yesterday was shot handheld.

So you're not shooting the same things I am, i.e., bugs.

And rails would probably work too, I just don't have the desire to buy any.

I use a tripod, live view with magnification and the two second timer. Works for me!

Thanks for the answers and suggestions. I believe I got my answer. No further need for discussions.

Also, I never intended for this thread to be a show me thread.

These were shot yesterday, handheld, I believe they qualify as bugs! https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/130-lens-sample-photo-archive/162342-pent...r-macro-2.html (scroll down the page).

Perhaps not quite in your league, but I'll get there.

I removed my photo because I didn't want this question thread to become another show me thread. I really wasn't looking for anyone to show me, just wanted an answer to my question.
