rare butterfly

My goal this year is to get a bit better at doing butterfly photos, and I'm reasonably pleased with this one. The Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 is supersharp and it's really fun to get those crazy smooth bokehs. What fun

Nice!
We have the azure family here, too. Sometimes they're moving so quickly you can't get pictures. Other times they'll pose for you. I have yet to get one with wings spread, though. Just a hint of that brilliant blue occasionally.

Thanks! These guys dance up and down especially at this time of year, when they're chasing each other mating. Pretty hopeless when there's also just about always a bit of a 5mph breeze through our valley like there's been much of the year, it's so annoying. But sometimes you get lucky - aka persistence pays off. Fun though

Thanks folks! This creature is in danger in the British Isles because so much heathland has been destroyed in the last 100 years (heather covered land), and this gal lays its eggs on that. The male of the species is the showstopper, beautiful blue upper wing. The defining thing is the bright metallic blue that you can see on the body and lower wing.
