Macro Macro Ring Light Ideas

I just received a Bolt VM-160 LED macro Ring Light. I have put it together and have a hard time thinking of how to use it. I like to keep the light on continuously because it allows the camera to capture the photo better with the way it meters the light. I also find that it allows my D FA 100 Macro to focus while I am closer to the subject, it doesn't hunt. What have you guys done with your Macro Ring Light? I would love tips.

I had one of those LED lights, it was nice for focusing (with the aperture stopped down) and close-up video. Stills... not so much. Sadly, you can't have both at the same time

I think of those as ways to increase the ambient light. that never hurts with macro. Even if you're using a flash in combination, more light is better for focusing and keeping the ISO down.
