I wouldn't recommend an f1.4 lens for macro if you are using it with a converter or extension tubes, you would be better off with a 1.7 or 1.8.
All 1.4 lenses are soft wide open and this can make manual focussing more difficult.
Cheapest and best option is a Pentax A or M 50mm f1.7 and a 2x macro converter, this will equate approximately to a 100mm 2.8 lens with 1:1 macro and give you excellent results.

One more thing. The red indicator only indicates where the camera picked the focus point. The green hexagon is what indicates in focus.

I've been super happy with my M 50mm f1.7 for macro. So far I have only used screw-in close-up lenses with it, but I have extension tubes on order, and I have an older Pentax 2x TC that I've been wanting to try on it. Here are a few shots... Camera is a K10D.

The high quality screw on close up lenses are really good. Raynox is a good example.

The purple iris (?) is quite lovely and you seem to be getting good shots. What close filter are you using?

Thank you. I used a +1 or +2 Vivitar coated close-up lens on front of the Pentax M 50mm f1.7. Got both items in the 70s. It's funny, the purple flower got the most positive comments from my local photography club even though it wasn't my favorite of all the ones I posted. Oh well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess. I look at it and see things I want to change. Here's a couple more taken at the same time... Wait, I'm sorta getting off-topic for this thread; better shut up. 8¬/
