I'd have to pop a couple more sticks of RAM in the PC to process that image.

And another storage drive per image...

In some ways this depressed me. I can't imagine dedicating the time he has to this let alone the money. All other macro insects are now inferior.

Excellent work and stunning pictures.

(I consider myself lucky when I get one wing of a butterfly in focus. )

The amount of detail is incredible and the use of lights just amazing.

Equally breathtaking are (stereo) macros of living insects in flight. I guess my reference for that would be Fotoopa (fotoopa's Photo Galleries at pbase.com and https://www.flickr.com/photos/fotoopa_hs), who has put as much dedication and for sure even more time into that -- if he just paid a little more attention to lightning!

amazing indeed. And something to really see in person, though the zoomable interactive site is helpful for experiencing the scale and detail.

I am curious what the 'landscape' would look like from the wing ooking at the 'forest' of hairs or standing in the forest of hairs of this tree hopper...

It doesnt look like he is processing them all at once. It looks more like building small puzzle bricks first (stacking), then building larger ones (complete body parts), then putting it all together in the end. (He probably need and have lots of RAM for each step anyway.)

I would love a job like that. Working undisturbed in my own sphere hour after hour.

Amazing the detail. Its like a fractal. No matter how much closer you get there is still infinite detail.

I'd say its great for education. Personally though, in terms of art, I prefer macro work of live subjects.

Stuff like this:

https://www.donkom.ca/category/macro-insects/

I saw a workshop by this guy. Apparently he is shooting with a 60 mmm 3:1 macro + extension tubes + teleconverters. I guess it varies based on subject of course, but he prefers shooting all handheld. Check out the snow flake stuff, its nuts.
