Cheap Macro

Pentax K-10...........Focal 28mm 2.8 gave 10 bucks for it..........deglassed 2x converter, off brand, gave 10 bucks for it..........pentax 280T flash, I think I got it for 25 bucks...........omni flash diffuser, couple of bucks.

No they are not as sharp as I get with my dedicated macro lenses, and the lighting is not as good as my sunpak ring flash, but I think they are passable images.

Question on the deglassed TC, what mm extension tube does this give you? I have a Vivitar 2x TC with contacts. I don't use it as a TC and was curious what mm it would be equivalent to an extension tube.

Just measure the tube from lens mount to camera mount surfaces.

They vary a little, but I think most are about 25mm.

Since I don't own a metric measure device, inches wouldn't tell me what mm it is.

Thanks pathdoc. I couldn't remember what one inch meant in mm. I used to have a car that said I was supposed to fill the radiator to 25mm but as I said, not owning nor have ever owned a metric ruler, I had no idea how that converted to in inches. Much as metric is used in photography, I would say it's time I bought a metric measuring tool, eh!

I had two full shifts this weekend as a guard for a couple of really obnoxious weekend "guests" - I'm glad I took next weekend to go visit my daughter and cannot work.

I see that PathDoc beat me to the answer by a good 6 hours. For closeup purposes 25 will work just as well. The little bit you are out won't matter much at all.

The next time you get stuck try this in your search bar

"Convert 1 inch to mm" - I got thousands of correct answers in about 1 second.

I have done that. I wanted a photographer's point of view.

Btw, the car thing was before the internet was available.
