Focus Stacking
Posted By: sjovolde, 07-14-2016, 08:41 PM

Got playing around tonight with some clover blossoms.

15 shots with a DFA 50mm 2.8 maco stacked in photoshop CC

23 shots with DFA 50mm 2.87 Macro and a Takumar-A 2X teleconverter, stacked in photoshop.

I think the teleconvereter doubles the effect of the lens so if I am at 1:1 with the teleconverter I should be at 2:1. If I'm wrong, please let me know.

A Teleconverter increases the focal length (which means the Field of View changes also) by whichever TC you use, so for example a 50mm with a 2x would effectively make it a 100mm lens (if you use a cropped camera like the K3II, you would include the crop factor, which would make the FL longer)

To increase the reproduction ratio to get a 1:1 (life size) or to 2:1 (which is greater than life size, which is getting into the microphotography world) you would need extension tubes.
For example, a normal 50mm would need 50mm worth of Extension Tubes to make it a 1:1 macro lens, if you add more extension tubes you would make it greater than life size.
If your using a lens that's already a true macro (like the 100mm macro), when you add extension tubes of any length your making it Greater Than Lifesize. (2:1)

Here's a link from B&H that will explain it more in detail. (The B&W videos are very interesting to watch & learn stuff, by the way)

That's correct.

An easy way to closely approximate the magnification of your setup is to photograph a ruler and compare the image to the size of your sensor, which is listed as 23.5mm x 15.6mm for your k-3.

Thanks for the information. I'll have to watch the video when I get some time.
