Peacock feather with extension tubes
Posted By: szs, 10-19-2017, 02:59 PM

Hello,

these are the photos I liked most of a session with a peackock feather and my new(ly bought used) K-5. The lens is a fixed manual 50mm/1.7 Revuenon and an extension tube. I can't remember which combination of tubes, but rather short, 1 or 2 cm perhaps. The camera sat on a cheap tripod.

I like the play of sharpness and softnes... and of course the colours and patterns.

Tell me what you think. Cheers, Ste

Very cool shots! I particularly like the vibrancy of the second shot.

How fun and very nice.
Is the lens set to a fixed wide aperture?
I'm asking because I really like the horizontal slice of focus on #1.
I really enjoy working with tubes myself, keep em coming.

Great captures, SZS.

With items as shallow as a peacock feather, I'd be tempted to just see what a scanner would do with it as well.

The mega pixels are awesome and the resolution is quite high as well.

I wasn't sure whether the effect of this one was over the top... But I guess once in a while that's fine

Haven't thought of that... I will try that later...

ps. would that still count as "macro photography"?

Yes, not 1.7 as far as I remember (I should write those things down...) but much wider than f/8. Maybe 3.5ish

The DOF makes the composition challenging. I like the #1 but from DOF perspective #2 is more appealing.

I would have thought a scanner is just another type of camera, anyway. It gets over having to do focus-stacking as well.

Personally, I prefer a deeper DOF, so I like the second one the best since it consistently renders sharpness and texture ... but all of them are interesting.
